More in the chat

Side questions, catch-up summaries, the files a session mentioned, and the cards and pills around the chat.

The working card and its pills

While the agent works, a one-line card above the message box says what it’s doing, and reads “Worked for 2m 13s” when the turn ends. Small pills on that card open a list each:

  • Threads: an orchestrator’s threads.
  • Tasks: the agent’s task list.
  • Subagents: helpers the agent started. Click one to read its transcript.
  • Background: commands still running in the background, each with its own timer.

The down arrow on the left scrolls to the bottom (or press Ctrl+Shift+Down). Turn on Previous question button (Settings > General, under Chat) for a ? button that steps through the questions you haven’t answered yet.

Side questions

In Claude Code, type /btw <question> (or turn on Side chat in More actions) to ask something without stopping the agent’s work. The answer opens in a card above the message box with Copy, Fork (keep going on it as a background agent) and Close. It isn’t added to the conversation. Codex has Side chat too, and answers in its terminal.

Catch me up

Turn on Catch me up button (Settings > General, under Chat). While the message box is empty, Catch me up has your Title Generation Agent, a small and cheap model, read the session’s last 30 messages and sum up what it’s working on and what needs you. Nothing is sent to the session’s own agent.

More actions > Files and links (Option+Ctrl+L, Ctrl+Alt+Shift+L on Windows and Linux) lists everything the session mentioned: Attachments (pictures and files), Files the agent created, edited or deleted, and Links. Click an item to open it, or First and Last to jump to the message that mentioned it. In an orchestrator’s chat, it covers every thread too.

Session note

The Session note button in the message box’s toolbar keeps a note on the session’s conversation, for you. When the chat is narrow, it moves into More actions. From a terminal: ghostex session-note.

Cards in the conversation

  • Permission requests say what the agent wants to do, which agent is asking, and the exact command or file.
  • Workflow: when Claude Code runs a workflow, a card shows its phases, one row per agent with its status, and Show full script.
  • /resume: in Claude Code and Codex chats, /resume opens a card listing the agent’s conversations. Type to search and press Enter to switch.
  • Diagrams: a Mermaid diagram an agent writes is drawn as a diagram. Source shows its text.
  • Messages between agents show as one line, like Message from “Sidebar fixes”. Click it to read the whole message.
  • Forks: once a conversation has forks, a branch button at the top right lists every session that shares its history.

Context and status

The ring next to the model pill shows how full the agent’s context is. Click it for details: cost, tokens, limits and resets. Its pen opens Context details, where you star the values you want in the status line under the message box.

Marked handovers

Orchestrators start each part of their reply with a marker, like ❓ Needs you, ✅ Done or 🧪 Untested, and the chat colors each section by its kind. Turn on Marked handovers in every session (Settings > General, under Chat) to have every agent do the same. With Show Advanced, Marked sections style picks colored labels, a thin rule, or a badge.
