title: Floating Capture
description: A small button over every app to check on your agents, take a screenshot, and send a prompt.
---

**Floating Capture** puts a small Ghostex button over every app, so you can see your agents and send them a prompt or a screenshot without switching to Ghostex.

Turn it on at the top of **Settings > Integrations > Floating Capture** (it's off by default).

## The button

Next to the icon, small numbers count the sessions waiting for you (blue), asking a question (pink) and working (amber), on this computer and your other computers. Drag it anywhere; drop it against the side of the screen to tuck it away as a thin tab.

Click it, or press **Cmd+Ctrl+Shift+S** (Alt+Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows and Linux), to open its panel:

| Action | Key | What it does |
| -------------- | ----- | -------------------------------------------------------- |
| Capture Area | A | Pick part of a screen, starting where you last captured. |
| Capture App | Space | The window of the app you were using. |
| Capture Screen | F | The screen under the mouse. |
| Write Prompt | T | Open the prompt box. |

Hold the same modifier keys with A, Space, F or T instead of S to run an action straight away, from any app. Below the actions, **Running Agents** lists your projects and sessions; click one to open it in Ghostex.

## Mark it up

Every capture opens a small editor: crop, then add arrows (A), text (T) and rectangles (R). Press **Enter** to add the picture to the prompt box. Each picture is also saved to `~/Documents/Screenshots` (macOS) or Pictures > Screenshots (Windows and Linux).

## Send a prompt

The prompt box sends to the session you last used in Ghostex, or to any project or session you pick from **Send to**. Add more screenshots from its icons, then press **Enter**. A note says where it went, and Ghostex switches to that session without coming to the front. Closing the box without sending keeps your text for next time.

On macOS, screenshots need Screen Recording permission for Ghostex. On Linux, Floating Capture works on X11 only.
