title: Cloud sessions and boxes
description: Run agents on Claude's computers or in an isolated box, and still see them in your sidebar.
---

Two ways to run an agent somewhere other than your own project folder: a **Claude cloud session** runs on Claude's computers, and a **box** runs an agent in an isolated copy of your project.

## Claude cloud sessions

A Claude cloud session is Claude Code on the web. It keeps going when your computer sleeps, and still has its row in your sidebar.

1. **Pick Claude (cloud)**

Press **Cmd+N** for New Thread and choose **Claude (cloud)**, then the Claude account it runs
    on.

2. **Type the task**

The session starts on claude.ai from the project's GitHub repository, on a new `claude/…`
    branch.

- **The row** has a cloud icon. Click it to open the session's claude.ai page in Ghostex's Browser. Otherwise it tells you what reached GitHub, like "Pull request #12 opened", with a notification.
- **Signing in**: each Claude account has its own claude.ai sign-in in Ghostex. Sign in ahead of time from **Settings > Accounts**, under **claude.ai in Ghostex**.
- **Right-click** the row for **Open on claude.ai** and **Bring to This Computer**, which continues the session here in a new worktree.
- **Out of usage**: the row says when it resumes, and offers **Start a Copy on Another Account…**.

You need Claude Code signed in with a Claude plan (not an API key), the repository on GitHub with Claude's GitHub app, and a cloud environment set up on claude.ai. Cloud sessions count against your plan's limits.

From a terminal: `ghostex create-agent claude-cloud --project-id <id> --prompt "<task>"`, and `ghostex claude-cloud --help` for the rest.

## Cloud Boxes

A **box** is an isolated copy of your project where an agent works without touching your computer. Boxes run on your computer with Docker (free), in the cloud on Hetzner, Vercel, Daytona, E2B or DigitalOcean, or on your own server over SSH. Claude, Codex, OpenCode and Pi can run in a box, with your settings and skills.

Cloud Boxes start off, and work on macOS and Linux (on Windows, use Ghostex inside WSL). Turn them on in **Settings > Extensions > Store** (Features).

1. **Set it up**

Open **Settings > Cloud Boxes** and click **Set It Up for Me**. An agent installs agentbox (the free, open-source tool Ghostex uses), asks which clouds you want before anything costs money, and signs Claude and Codex in for boxes. You can also do each step by hand on the same page.

2. **Start a thread in a box**

In New Thread, pick a box under **Run on**, or choose **Run in a Box** in a project's agent menu. A new chat also shows a **Run on** row until you send the first message.

- Box sessions open in the terminal view, with a badge that says where they run.
- Right-click a box session for **Open Box Web App**, **Open Box Screen**, **Stop Box** and **Destroy Box**.
- Add an `agentbox.yaml` with `services.web.expose.port` to start your dev server in the box automatically.

:::warning
Cloud boxes cost money while they exist. Closing a session stops its box and keeps its work; **Settings > Cloud Boxes > Your boxes** lists every box, and **Destroy** deletes one for good.
